Abstract
The paper retraces some of the salient events which, starting from the new Millennium, have marked the path of the international scenario’ transformations. The resurgent geopolitical rivalry, the emergence of new powers committed, with unconventional strategies, to demonstrating their centrality in history and geography of the world and the consequent repolarization of the international system have made a hyper-connected and complex world unstable and chaotic. In an era that offers no clear interpretations or well-defined evolutionary lines, war has become an increasingly viable option: it is the other side of peace.
