Abstract
In occasione dell’80° anniversario del Manifesto di Ventotene, il saggio fa il punto sullo ‘stato dell’arte’ della ricerca intorno ad alcuni elementi rilevanti della storia del testo (gli autori, le fonti di ispirazione, le varie redazioni ed edizioni del testo), dando conto dei più recenti studi di un gruppo di ricercatori da tempo impegnati sul tema. Sulla base di un confronto tra tutte le fonti disponibili e superando l’uso quasi esclusivo delle fonti memorialistiche, diventa così possibile diradare un po’ la nebbia che avvolge l’origine e l’elaborazione del documento, rispondendo ad alcune domande e cercando di chiarire qualche imprecisione ed equivoco ancora diffusi sia nell’interpretazione storiografica corrente sia nella vulgata intorno al Manifesto federalista. Molti, tuttavia, restano ancora i punti oscuri, su cui sono possibili solo congetture. La ricerca storica sul Manifesto ventotenese resta dunque un cantiere aperto ma, con il suo progredire, contribuisce a migliorare la comprensione del testo e contrastarne gli usi ideologici da parte di una politica culturale talora strumentale.

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Ventotene Manifesto, the essay takes stock of the ‘state of the art’ of research around some relevant points in the history of the text (the authors, the sources of inspiration, the various editions), taking into account the most recent studies by a group of researchers who have been working on the topic for a long time. On the basis of a comparison between all the available sources and overcoming the almost exclusive use of memorial sources, it thus becomes possible to clear a little of the ‘fog’ that surrounds the origin and the drafting of the document, answering some questions and trying to clarify some inaccuracies and misunderstandings still widespread both in the current historiographical interpretation and in the vulgate around the federalist Manifesto. However, many obscure points still remain, on which only conjectures are possible. Historical research on the Ventotene Manifesto therefore remains an open work but, as it proceeds, it helps to improve the understanding of the text and to contrast its ideological uses by a instrumental cultural policy.
